Description: | AIMS OF THE INITIATIVE The CONTENT Network of Excellence (NoE) targets a key area of Information Society Technologies, namely Content Delivery Networks, as an integral part of Networked Audio-Visual Systems. CONTENT aims to build the European Research Area in this important communication topic by integrating a group of experts with the purpose of taking forward the state of the art and increasing European leadership in Content Networks. The overall goal of the CONTENT Network-of-Excellence is to integrate the research efforts of the members to address the technical challenges at the different system levels to enable easy-to-install and easy-to-use audio-visual services in and between communities. In particular, the main technical objective is to boost the potential of European Community Networking by improving Content Distribution infrastructures for the delivery of live (streaming) content and interactive stored content, and by integrating, in an open way, tools and mechanisms that would enable the curation of multimedia assets and their subsequent access for the benefit of the communities of users, producing a set of appropriate services for them. CONTENT favours all interaction with SMEs at national level, by organising Local Industry Workshops and/or Technology Days for local industry in several countries. Local organisation ensures good participation of SMEs by reducing travel and participation costs. CONTENT supports these events by bringing together experts from industry and academia to present and discuss their ideas. The Italian Local Industry Workshop provides such opportunity for Italian researchers and practitioners. The main objective of the Italian CONTENT Local Industry Workshop is the exchange of ideas between researchers in content distribution networks at national level. Several questions arise in this respect: What are the main research and development challenges in order to provide content to user communities? What are the solutions for content distribution used in current networks? How does the industry envisage the evolution of content networks? What types of content have interest to the users? How will the all-IP world affect content creation, sharing and distribution? Are the main issues technological or societal? These and other topics will certainly be discussed in this exciting workshop. Participation to this event is completely free of charge. A registration is kindly requested for logistics reasons.
